Hoof care doesn’t have to be a struggle. Using positive reinforcement, you teach your horse to calmly and voluntarily participate in lifting, holding and handling their hooves. This certificate helps you turn hoof care into a predictable, safe routine based on trust and communication.

About this certificate

🏅 What does it entail?
The ‘Trimming & Training’ certificate shows that you and your horse have mastered the basics of cooperative hoof care. This includes lifting front and hind legs on cue, holding a leg calmly, working with your trimmer, building in breaks and rewards, and reading your horse’s signals. The focus is on cooperation, not force or speed.
✅ What do you have to do to get it?

You’ll receive this certificate once you’ve completed the relevant skill cards from the Hoof Care category, for example:

A full list of skill cards is available once you start the program. Some cards can be achieved with young horses already. When circumstances allow, you’ll also receive practical tools for approaching trims in the most horse-friendly way, without compromising your horse’s trust or the progress you’re making with reward-based training.

Experience and time investment

We take into account:

- the horse’s health and age
- the experience of horse and owner
- any previous negative experiences with hoof care

Depending on these factors and your goals, the process can take several months or years. The course builds on foundational skills. Having the Basic Certificate allows you to move on more quickly and at greater depth.

The certificates build on each other, but there’s no fixed order. You can work on several at the same time or dive deeper into one area for a while.
