From Fussy to Focus: Step-by-step Cooperative Hoof Care Training
A Free Webinar for Thoughtful Horse Owners Who Seek a Comfortable Hoof Trimming Experience
Are you tired of “getting through” hoof care? Join me for a 60-minute deep dive into the mechanics of cooperative care, where we turn a stressful chore into a conversation based on trust and R+ principles.
Monday 6 April 2026, 08:00 UTC & Friday 10 April 2026, 15:00 UTC
You’re doing so much right. So why does it still feel… inconsistent?
You are a thoughtful trainer. You’ve moved away from force, you’ve embraced positive reinforcement, and you deeply care about your horse’s well-being. But when it comes to hoof care, you’re getting stuck. Maybe it looks like this:
The "Gamble"
Some days the farrier visit goes fine; other days, there’s a tension you can’t quite place.
Slow progress
You’ve been practicing, but you’re not sure how to move from “holding a foot for a second” to a relaxed, full trim.
Mechanical gap
You understand the theory of R+, but applying it to the specific, physical demands of hoof care feels like a puzzle with missing pieces.
If you feel like your practice doesn’t always match your theory, you aren’t failing. You are simply at a “point of refinement.” You don’t need a “fix”; you need a clearer way to look at the process.
For the thoughtful trainer, a horse struggling to hold a hoof isn’t a behavior problem; it’s valuable feedback.
Instead of asking, “How do I make him do it?” you’re likely asking:
“How can I make this easier for him today?”
“What signs am I missing?”
“Am I asking too much or am I not being clear?”
These are the right questions. This webinar is designed to help you find the answers.
A 4-Step Framework for Predictable Hoof Training
1. Identifying the problem: How can you tell if it’s your horse’s ability, anxiety, or motivation that needs more attention?
2. Regulating emotions: Create a flowchart so you always know how to deal with stressful hoof care situations.
3. Creating a dialogue: Learn how cues, startbuttons and reinforcement can improve your communication with the horse.
4. The path to duration and desensitisation: How to build a steady plan that leads to easy and predictable hoof care.
Is this webinar for you?
This work is for people who have the space to slow down, reflect, and work consistently over time. It tends to suit people who enjoy learning, asking questions, and refining their approach as they go.
This IS for you if:
- You value nuance and precision over “unpopular opinions” or guru-led shortcuts.
- You want to understand the mechanisms behind behavior, not just the results.
- You practice R+ (Positive Reinforcement) and want to refine your timing and criteria.
- You believe that your horse’s emotional safety is just as important as their physical health.
This is NOT for you if:
- You are looking for a “quick fix” to force a horse into submission.
- You believe the horse should “just do it because I asked.”
- You aren’t interested in the “Why” behind the “How.”
“More importantly, we can now handle all four hooves”
“My second horse had a truly awful experience with the trimmer: he received a harsh blow to his belly, and since then, no one can get near his hooves!
Working with Janneke has given me more confidence in lifting my horse’s feet. More importantly, we can now handle all four hooves by working slowly, trusting my horse’s signals, and rewarding him.”
– Katrina & Billy
Who will you be learning from?
I’m Janneke, and I have been navigating the horse world for over 25 years – the last decade as an independent entrepreneur.
My journey hasn’t been a straight line. I went from traditional equine management and competitions to being deeply skeptical of food rewards, before finally embracing the science of how horses truly learn. I understand the skepticism because I was there myself.
I didn’t just settle for a diploma. When specialist programs weren’t available, I sought out the best minds in behavior science. My approach is influenced by experts ranging from primatologists, dog trainers, exotic animal trainers and some of the most succesfull R+ horse trainers this world knows now..
I created this webinar to share what I’ve learned from training so many humans and their horses who were struggling with hoof care problems for years. I’m here to save you the years of trial and error I went through, so you can find the clarity your horse deserves.
From guesswork to clarity
When you finish this webinar, you won’t just have “tips.” You will have a shift in perspective.
You will start recognizing what actually matters and what you can ignore during a training session.
Your sessions will become more predictable, because you’ll understand the feedback your horse is giving you.
You will leave with a simple, actionable plan for your next session.
Hoof care doesn’t have to be a daily struggle and hoof trims shouldn’t be a 6-weekly nightmare. They can be the place where your bond becomes most visible. ❤︎
